For those that have been a resident of Spain for less than five years, you may receive a temporary TIE, which is valid for a further five years. However, if you have been a resident for over five years, you will be issued a permanent TIE which is valid for 10 years.

An application for a new TIE should be made one month prior to expiry, or within three months following the expiry date.
